On May 23rd, a car caravan of advocates and family members gathers to demand life-saving precautions under Covid—and abuses endured—by people living under Covid at the two prison facilities in Chino.

At the time there have been 6 deaths at California Institution for Men and in the coming days, 2 more. Numerous reports coming in from California Institution for Women have cited lack of access to clean water and communication, food, and medical care. People testing positive for the virus have been mocked by guards, harassed, and cut off from communication with their family.

Advocacy groups encourage the public to pressure Warden Richard Montes, Warden Mona Houston, Secretary Ralph Diaz, and Governor Gavin Newsom to improve conditions at CIW and CIM and to expedite release especially of medically vulnerable people including those undergoing chemotherapy and with compromised immune systems. Their contact information is as follows:

Richard Montes: richard.montes@cdcr.ca.gov; (909) 606-4920.
Mona D. Houston: mona.houston@cdcr.ca.gov; (909) 597-1821
Ralph Diaz: ralph.diaz@cdcr.ca.gov; (916)-324-7308
Gavin Newsom: commutations@gov.ca.gov; (916) 445-2841
