Ferngully is stable under the care of our excellent vet partner, Dr. Terry, and her team. She weighs the weight of her bones and skin. It took some time before this poor dog got to be in this condition. Our primary concern right now is to avoid refeeding syndrome. The medical team had to back her off to every 3 hrs, 1/2 a can of food. She can’t handle too much too fast right now. They have her on IV antibiotics and gastrointestinal meds. They will slowly try to bump up her food every day.
This dog can’t stand on her own without collapsing and can’t even take one step. How she managed to survive is a testimony to her will. Her sweet innocent eyes looking around, wanting to be helped, wanting to live. She has an incredible spirit and will to survive. This dog has gone through so much in her short life and still, her reaction to being touched as everyone shows how much she wants to love and be loved. She still trusts and knows she is being helped. Ferngully will remain hospitalized for several weeks due to the severity of her condition,
Thank you for being strong beside her, we know how unfortunate these cases are. Her first year of life has not been a good one, but from now on, with your help, her life will only get better.
