Webinar suitable for care home staff working in the catering department that would like to increase their nutrition knowledge. Learning objectives:
1. To have an understanding of healthy eating guidelines for the whole population
2. To appreciate how healthy eating for care home residents (including those at risk of malnutrition) differs from healthy eating for the whole population
3. To consider the diverse needs of care home residents regarding preparation and presentation of food, taking into account those who:
• cannot use cutlery
• may not be able to sit down to eat
• have swallowing difficulties
pressure sores
• have other conditions such as diabetes
4. To gain an understanding of the impact of malnutrition on health and wellbeing
5. To appreciate the central role of catering staff in preventing and treating malnutrition
6. To recognise that prevention and treatment of malnutrition should focus on food rather than prescribed products, and that “food first” treatment can be simple, inexpensive and practical
