In this video we demonstrate how to apply a base coat with our poly 90 system. Poly 90 is a 2 component polyaspartic product. We’re applying a base coat for our one day flake system. We’ve already prepped the mock up area and as you can see it is bone dry which is what we call a total white out. A mock up area is a very important thing to do so that you know how to work with the material. If you’re doing this for a client you can show them what the color and texture will look like.
We use equal parts A and B of our Poly 90 product. We use a medium gray color pack for the purposes of this video. We pour a bit of the medium gray color into the A side and mix it for about a minute. We then combine our A and B and mix them together. Our Ratio on A to B is 1:1 and you want to get as close to that as possible. We mix the product for about a minute and we do this mechanically with a paddle attached to a drill which is our recommended method for mixing product. It’s also a good idea to have a mixing station with a piece of cardboard or other material so that you don’t end up dripping the product onto the floor.
Our Poly 90 product has a bucket life of up to 45 minutes providing you with a much longer work time than most other products. Once the product is applied to the floor you have about ten to twenty minutes of work time depending on ambient temperature. Poly 90 is also a very low VOC and low odor product.
The first thing you’ll want to do is put on spiked shoes and use a chip brush to cut in the edges. For a job like this you’ll want at least two people. One person will be mixing the product and broadcasting the flake while the other person applies the coating. We use a 9 inch roller for this mock up area but for a larger area you’ll want to use an 18 inch roller.
You want to wet out your roller and apply the product to the floor. With this being a full flake system, minor imperfections in the floor will be hidden nicely. Once you roll the product out onto the floor you’ll have about ten minutes to get the flakes into it. Roll the product out onto the floor and have your partner broadcast the flake onto the floor. Don’t dump the flake out but instead try to spread it out with multiple, even broadcasts. You want to start higher and go lower. Imagine that you’re feeding chickens and try to get 100% coverage. After you feel like you’ve got 100% coverage you’ll want to look for wet spots and fill them in with flakes.
Let the product sit for about two to three hours until it’s dry and then you can apply the final coat.
